India set the world record for the biggest victory in ODI cricket. Cricket team of India set the record for the largest margin of defeat in terms of runs in ODIs.

The Indian team defeated Sri Lanka by 317 runs in the third ODI of the series.

Batting first, India scored 390 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Chasing the target of 391, the Sri Lankan team was bowled out for 73 runs.

The previous world record for the biggest victory held by New Zealand who defeated Ireland by 290 runs in 2008.

For the third consecutive ODI, Mohammad Siraj’s devastating powerplay played a key role in Sri Lanka’s rout, and the hosts won the match by 317 runs in Kerala on Sunday.

India now lead the ODI series 3-0. It was the biggest win by a team in the history of One Day International cricket.

This record previously held by New Zealand when they defeated Ireland by 290 runs in 2008. Australia is second in the list after defeating Afghanistan by 275 runs in 2015.

At the end of the first mandatory powerplay, SL were 39/5, with Chamika Karunaratne (1*) joined by captain Dasan Shanaka (4*). Siraj could do no wrong as he ran out Karunaratne for just one. Alarm bells ring for the Asian champions, who reduced to 39/6. SL managed to cross the 50-run mark in 14.2 overs. But it was Kuldeep Yadav, who gave Spin his first success of the match, dismissing skipper Shanaka for 11 off 26 balls.
