Pakistan degrades Wikipedia services for failing to “block/remove sacrilegious contents.” Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Wednesday reduced Wikipedia services across the nation for 48 hours.
In an announcement, the PTA said it had approached Wikipedia for blocking/remove the content in question by issuing a notice under. “applicable law and court orders”.

“An opportunity of hearing was also provided. However, the platform neither submitted by removing the offensive content nor appeared before the Authority.” the statement added.

“Given the planned failure on part of the platform to comply with the directions of PTA. The services of Wikipedia degraded for 48 hours with the direction to block/remove the reported contents,” the telecom regulator added.

Pakistan Degrades Wikipedia Services. The platform blocked in Pakistan if Wikipedia doesn’t comply. and its restoration “reconsidered subject to blocking/removal of the reported illegal content,” the government warned.
This is not the first time the authority has taken notice of unpleasant content on Wikipedia. In December 2020, PTA had issued notices to Google and Wikipedia on account of publishing violating content through the platforms.
