Sources also say that the purpose of acquiring this additional 100 megawatts of electricity from Iran is to provide maximum electricity to Gwadar.
Balochistan is the most backward and neglected region of Pakistan and Gwadar is not connected to the national grid.
Instead, it relied on the power of neighboring Iran, but that momentum has slowed in recent months. After the dam has dried up, water has also become scarce.
Pakistan has directed authorities in southwestern Balochistan province as well as the country’s power division to start negotiations with Iran on the purchase of an additional 100 megawatts of electricity to meet Gwadar’s daily power needs, the port city at the heart of the $65 billion China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
