Mahira Khan speaks out against child labour. She a Pakistani celebrity actor, backed Nadia Jamil’s call to action to speak out against the alleged torture of Rizwana, a young housemaid.
Mahira Khan declared that “child labor is illegal, wrong, and unethical” in a video message that Jamil posted on her social media accounts. Try your hardest to put an end to this curse for the sake of God, these children, and Pakistan.
The actor went on to say that her complaint not directed at the financially strapped parents. Who occasionally must send their children to work to help pay for living expenses. But rather at the wealthy, well-educated, and elite households that take advantage of the social and economic conditions of others for their own gain.
She additional said, “This appeal of mine to people like me and you, the people like us who are in positions of power. Who have platforms, voices and are lucky enough that we don’t have to sell our children to beg and plead, nor do we have to send our children to the places or houses which are unknown to us, where – God forbid – our children are abused or tortured.”
“My appeal for all of us to speak out, for lawmakers to provide enough so these children not to go and work. And of course, most importantly, when there cases like Rizwana, there MUST ACCOUNTABILITY!” Khan insisted.

It is important to note that, prior to Khan, A-list celebrities including Wahaj Ali, Sajal Aly, Hamza Ali Abbasi, and others had vehemently denounced the brutal torture of 14-year-old Rizwana by the wife of a civil judge in Islamabad.
