PTI urges caretaker PM to confirm timely elections

PTI urges caretaker PM to confirm timely elections. Shah Mahmood Qureshi, vice chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), urged caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar to ensure that the country holds elections in a timely manner.

A day after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) failed to provide the Supreme Court with a final date for the upcoming general elections.

When Director General (Law) Muhammad Arshad failed to provide the Supreme Court with a specific polling date, rumors about the polls’ delay began to circulate.

On Tuesday, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial enquired about the date of the general elections. While hearing complaints about the delineation of provincial constituencies PS 7, 8, and 9 Shikarpur. The director general gave a shrug in response.

“As yet, no date for the elections decided. The election commission should resolve all issues before the polls,” the CJP remarked.

Qureshi informed Kakar, in a letter to the acting prime minister that his party intended to take the Council of Common Interests (CCI) decision to court.

On August 5, the CCI “unanimously” approved the 7th Population and Housing Census results, making it almost certain that the general elections — which to held in November after the dissolution of the National Assembly on August 9 — not held during the current year.

“Time has come to put the country on the path of law and the constitution,” he added
