American singer Jimmy Buffett dies. According to his website on Saturday, Jimmy Buffett, an American singer-songwriter best known for his “Margaritaville” escapist ode to the tropical life, has passed away at the age of 76.
“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs. He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and missed beyond measure by so many,” a declaration on the website said.
His most well-known single, Margaritaville, which released in 1977, spent 22 weeks on the chart and peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 list.
Over the course of a career spanning five decades, Buffett produced 27 studio albums, including four platinum and eight gold records. He also wrote songs and managed a business empire.

His wife Jane Slagsvol, their two daughters, Sarah and Savannah, and son, Cameron, all survived him.
