Huawei opens cloud data centre. In an effort to expand its online service offerings in the Middle East and North Africa, Huawei Technologies has opened a cloud data center in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, the Chinese tech giant announced on Monday.
According to a company official at a briefing, the cloud data center in Riyadh, Huawei’s 30th globally, will support government services for the Saudi Arabian kingdom and enable AI applications and Arabic language models.
According to Steven Yi, regional president of the company. “The implementation of Huawei cloud is not just about us, but is a bridge that will bring other Chinese companies to Saudi Arabia.”
He added that Huawei opened its regional headquarters in the Saudi capital this year, saying that the move would aid in the growth of the nation’s digital economy.
After this year, Saudi Arabia has previously stated that it will not sign contracts with foreign businesses that do not have regional headquarters there.

Despite being the second-largest vendor in mainland China, Huawei came in fifth place globally in the first quarter of the cloud services market with a market share of 2.4%, according to research consultancy Canalys.
Huawei announced in February that it would spend $400 million over the course of five years in the Saudi Arabian cloud market.
