Bangladeshi cricket team captain Shakib Al Hasan was elected as a Member of Parliament after winning the recent parliamentary elections in Bangladesh with a huge majority.
According to foreign media reports, the elections held in Bangladesh yesterday were boycotted by the opposition parties.
The 36-year-old all-rounder defeated his rival in Magura constituency in the western town by a margin of over 150,000 votes.
According to media reports, District Chief Administrator Abu Nasir Baig confirmed the player’s victory.
It may be noted that before the elections, Bangladesh cricket team captain Shakib Al Hasan admitted that he does not face any serious hurdles in the elections but is still concerned that he can maintain a balance between cricket and politics.
He has not yet retired from cricket. He is the only cricketer to hold the ICC number one all-rounder ranking in all three cricket formats simultaneously.

Bangladesh, election without opposition, Hasina Wajid is sure to become Prime Minister for the fifth time.
It should be noted that Shakib Al Hasan participated in the election on the ticket of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid’s ruling party Awami League.
According to media reports, Hasina Wajid has also won for the 8th time from her native constituency, while all the opposition parties of Bangladesh, including the BNP, have completely boycotted the elections citing the government’s reprisals, arrests and punishments.
