First time in Pakistan 1 liver & pancreas transplant in 2 patients

For the first time in Pakistan, a liver and a pancreas transplant have been successfully performed in two patients.

Split liver transplant and pancreas transplantation were performed at the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute, Lahore.

Dr. Faisal Saud Dar, dean of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute, Lahore, while speaking, said that the lives of 7 people have been saved from the organs of brain-dead patients in Rawalpindi.

He said that 32-year-old Uzair bin Yasin’s liver was transplanted into a child and a young person, while Uzair’s donated pancreas was transplanted into a type one diabetic patient.

Uzair bin Yasin’s organs including liver, pancreas, kidney, and eyes were removed on Sunday night, Dr. Faisal Saud Dar said. The donated eyes and kidneys were transplanted in 4 patients in Rawalpindi.

He further informed that 7 to 10 lives can be saved with one person’s donated organs.

Dr. Faisal Saud Dar also says that thousands of people die every year in Pakistan due to a lack of organ donation.
