KARACHI: The water supply to Karachi was suspended on Saturday after a breach happened in the Hub Canal, which carries water from the dam to the city.
According to sources privy to the matter, a five feet wide breach within the Hub Dam canal coming from Baluchistan disturbed the water supply to Karachi.
“However, a team of Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has reached the spot for repair work,” said the sources.
However, according to the WAPDA spokesperson,
The repairing work within the Hub canal has been completed and water supply as reestablished to Karachi.
“Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) is providing 76 million of gallons’ water to Karachi from Hub Dam,”
He said, adding that the supply would get better in the evening.
A source in the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) said that:
It would take 24-48 hours to repair the breach in the canal and the restoration of water to the city.

It is worth mentioning here that residents of Karachi are already facing water shortages amid scorching weather conditions.
The areas most affected by this water shortage include:
Orangi Town, Baldia Town, Sher Shah, North Nazimabad, Manghopir, and surrounding areas.

The geographical area of Hub stream is meet many kilometers in Balochistan and Sindh.
The Hub Dam, settled 56 metric linear unit from Karachi with a complete capability of 339 feet, is extended to 24,300 acres with a gross storage capacity of 8,57,000 acre-feet water.
It is Pakistan’s third-largest dam and an important source of water supply to Karachi.
