Apple, one of the world’s largest mobile phone sellers, will have to replace the chargers for iPhones sold in Europe by 2024, Because EU countries and legislators have agreed on a single mobile charging port for mobile phones, tablets and cameras. This is the first decision of its kind in the world.
According to the foreign news agency ‘Reuters‘, this political interference has come at a time when the companies have failed to reach a common solution.
Regarding this decision, the European Commission says that it will create convenience for consumers and save their money.
Europe has been trying to introduce a single mobile charging port for more than a decade after consumer complaints surfaced, IPhone and Android users have complained that they are having trouble using different chargers to charge their devices.
IPhones are charged via a lighting cable, while USB devices are used to charge Android devices.
The European Parliament said in a statement that by the fall of 2024, the USB Type Connector will become a common charging port for all mobile phones, tablets and cameras used in the European Union.
Apple warned that the proposal would hurt innovation and that the decision would create a mountain of electronic waste.
However, the company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
