Pakistan moved up one place in the latest ICC ODI rankings to snatch the third position from Australia.
Yesterday, Sri Lanka defeated Australia by 26 runs in the second ODI to tie the five-match ODI series at one-on-one.
After the defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka, the Australian team reached the fourth position.
In the rain-affected first match of the series, Australia defeated Sri Lanka by 2 wickets.
After a promotion, Pakistan has moved up from fourth to third position in the ICC ODI team rankings.
Pakistan swept the West Indies to a clean sweep at home and snatched the fourth position from India in the ODI rankings.
However, after Australia’s 26-run defeat against Sri Lanka, the national team’s rating increased by one point. Took over the third position while the Kangaroos slipped one point to fourth.
The New Zealand team still holds the number one position in the ICC ODI rankings.
According to the latest ICC rankings, New Zealand is leading with 125 rating points, England is second with 124 points, Pakistan is third with 106 points and Australia and India are fourth and fifth with 105 points respectively.
South Africa is sixth with 99 rating points, Bangladesh is seventh with 95 points, Sri Lanka is eighth with 86 points, West Indies is ninth with 72 points and Afghanistan is tenth with 69 points.
It is to be noted that Pakistan took the fourth position against the West Indies after gaining 4 points thanks to a clean sweep.
Pakistan’s performance in 50 overs cricket has been very good during the last two years and apart from the series defeat against England, Pakistan played the best game in all the other series.
Pakistan beat Zimbabwe and South Africa as well as Australia and now made a clean sweep against West Indies.
In the coming days, the Pakistan team is likely to continue its good performance in ODI cricket as the Pakistan team will play a series against Afghanistan and the Netherlands abroad as well as host New Zealand.
