In the first phase of local body elections in Sindh, the daughter of a donkey driver from Khairpur won the election as an independent candidate.
According to media reports, Parveen Sheikh daughter of Ghulam Shah Sheikh has defeated PPP candidate Manthar Sheikh in Ward 1 of Khairpur Municipal Committee.
Manthar Sheikh was nominated by former Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah and PPP MNA Nafisa Shah Jilani.
In the local body elections, Parveen Sheikh got 430 votes.
Talking to The News, Parveen Sheikh said, “I am confident of winning the election, even though my father turned against me due to political issues.”
It may be recalled that in the local body elections held in 14 districts of Sindh, PPP has won in 13 districts while GDA is still leading in District Council Ghotki.
According to the results of the district council, the PPP has won a decisive majority in Jacobabad, Kashmore, Shaheed Benazirabad, i.e. Nawabshah and Umerkot.
Besides, PPP is ahead of its rivals in Sukkur, Khairpur, Larkana, Qambar Shahdad Kot, Shikarpur, Nowshero Feroze, Sanghar, Mirpur Khas and Tharparkar.
