Electricity Deficit: 8 to 10 hours of load-shedding in country

ISLAMABAD: The electricity deficit in Pakistan has reached 6,439 MW, subsequent in 8 to 10 hours of load-shedding in the country, NEWS reported.

Conferring to sources in power division, the overall demand for power in the country stands at 24,900 MW in contradiction of a production of 18,461 MW. “The electricity production for water resources stands at 6,700MW, IPPs at 7,500MW, nuclear power plants at 2,425 MW, and public-owned thermal plants at 786 MW,” they said.

Additionally, they said that the power formed from solar energy stands at 145MW, 786 MW from wind power plant and 75 MW from bagasse-based power plants.

The sources in power division said that presently the country is witnessing eight to 10 hours of load-shedding.

It is relevant to reference here that the federal government has proclaimed numerous deadlines formerly to end load-shedding in the country, though, they have yet to materialize owed to numerous reasons cited by the ministers containing higher fuel prices and delay in maintenance of the power plants.

The cooperative inflow of water in the rivers is 303,000 cusecs although the total water storage in the dams is 7.8 million acre feet.

Water Inflow:

The water inflow at Tarbela point in the Indus River is 165,000 cusecs. Although the water release at that point is 136,000 cusecs. The water storage in Tarbela Dam is 5.2 million acre feet.

Water inflow at Nowshera point in the Kabul River is 41,000 cusecs.

Also water inflow at Chashma Barrage is 169,000 cusecs. Whereas at Mangala point in the Jhelum River, it is 38,000 cusecs.

The inflow of water at Marala point in the Chenab River is 58,000. Whereas at Kotri barrage, it is 192,000 cusecs.

At least 184,000 cusecs of water are being released into the sea. Since April 1 last, 4.1 million acre feet of water have been released into the sea.
