ISTANBUL: Two more grain-carrying ships sailed from Ukraine’s Chornomorsk port on Tuesday, Turkey’s defense ministry said, as part of a deal to unblock Ukrainian sea exports.
The United Nations and Turkey brokered the contract last month after notices that the stop in grain shipments caused by the battle could lead to severe food shortages and even outbreaks of famine in parts of the world.
The other ships carried 11,000 tonnes of soybeans, 6,000 tonnes of sunflower oil and 45,000 tonnes of sunflower meal.
The Ocean Lion, which proceeded for South Korea, is carrying 64,720 tonnes of corn, it said, although the Rahmi Yagci is carrying 5,300 tonnes of sunflower meal to Istanbul.
The four ships that left Ukraine former are anchored near Istanbul and will be reviewed on Tuesday, the defence ministry statement said.

Before Russia invaded Ukraine for what it calls its “special military operation”, the two countries composed accounted for nearly a third of global wheat exports.
The recommencement of grain exports is being overseen by a Joint Coordination Centre (JCC) in Istanbul where Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish and U.N. personnel are working.
