Babar Azam Crossed Virat Kohli to Rank on 1 in ODI Ranking

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has further cemented his position as the world’s top-ranked ODI batsman in the latest ICC Men’s Player Rankings.

Babar Azam scored a brilliant 74 during Pakistan’s 16-run victory over the Netherlands on Tuesday, helping him to move clear of his nearest rivals in the ODI rankings.

Babar Azam has been at the top of the ODI batsmen’s rankings since he overtook former India captain Virat Kohli in April last year and after the latest update, his lead at the top position has now extended to 91 rating points.

The Pakistani captain has a total of 891 rating points, his teammate Imam-ul-Haq is his closest rival with 800 rating points.

Babar also tops the latest T20 batsman rankings, with New Zealand opener Dion Conway closing in on the Pakistani star after an impressive series against the West Indies.

Conway was the second highest run-scorer in the series with 106 runs, helping him to 7th place in the T20 batsmen’s rankings.

The Kiwis have progressed in the latest rankings, with all-rounder Mitchell Santner moving up to eighth overall in the T20 bowlers’ rankings by nine places.

Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood tops the list. Hazlewood also improved one place in the latest ODI bowlers’ rankings, dropping two places to fifth after Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi missed the opening match against the Netherlands.

The biggest jump in the ODI bowler rankings has been made by Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman, who has moved up 6 places to 10th overall.

Mustafiz was the joint-highest wicket-taker during Bangladesh’s recent series against Zimbabwe, giving the 26-year-old pacer a chance to break into the top 10.
