Pakistani short film ‘Mulaqat’ qualifies for Oscar.
The film ‘Mulaqat’, directed by Pakistani-born British filmmaker Seemab Gull, wins the top award at the Short Film Festival in the United States.
After that the film itself entered the race for the highest film award, the Oscar.
According to showbiz website ‘The Wrap’, the Urdu language film ‘Mulaqat’ is one of the three films that wins top awards at the California Short Film Festival.
‘Mulaqat’ wins the top award in the ‘Live Action’ category at the short film festival ‘Holy Shorts’.
The film automatically qualified for the ‘Oscars’.
Apart from the Pakistani film, two other films also qualified for the Oscars.
Remaining two short films, one film (Hallelujah) wins the best short film, while the other (Scale) qualified for the Oscar in the animated category.
Mulaqat (Sandstorm) film will compete with other films from around the world at the 2023 Oscars.
Its producer Abid Aziz Merchant also said in an Instagram post about the inclusion of Mulaqat in the Oscar race.
Apart from the aforementioned film, ‘Intzaar’ has also wins awards at various festival. The film has been screened in other international films including ‘Venice’.
The film is directed by Seemab Gull, a Pakistani-origin based in London, starring Prizey Fatima and Hamza Mushtaq. Produced by Abid Aziz Merchant.
