Brooklyn-based Arooj Aftab won the trophy in the Best Global Performance category on Sunday for his song “Muhabbat”.
Arooj, who shared the photo with the award, told her followers on Instagram. She was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best New Artist and Best Global Performance.
Former US President Barack Obama has declared ‘Love’ as his favorite and it was also included in his Summer play List of year 2021.
The 37-year-old, who has lived in New York for 15 years, combines classical music with folk and jazz, and continues to gain international attention through her work.
Arooj’s parents are from Dawoodi Arab and he was born in Saudi Arabia. The singer went to Boston’s famous Berkeley School of Music to study musical production and engineering and now lives in the United States.
Twice Grammy Award nominee Arooj Aftab’s picture has also been posted on the Times Square billboard as an ambassador for the audio streaming service Spotify’s ‘Equal Pakistan’ campaign.
