England cricket captain Ben Stokes says a masked gang burgled his home – while his wife and two children were there during his stay in Pakistan for the recent Test series.
The 33-year-old said his family suffered “no physical harm” but some “emotional” things were taken.
Stokes published photos of the missing items, including the OBE medal he received in 2020.
“The worst thing about this crime so far is that it was committed while my wife and two young children were at home,” he said.
“Thankfully, no one in my family was physically harmed.
“However, understandably, the experience has taken a toll on their emotional and mental state.”
“We can only imagine how much worse this situation could have been.”
Stokes, who lives in Castle Eden, County Durham, said the incident happened on the evening of October 17.
The following day, England were defeated by Pakistan in the second Test, with Stokes dismissed for 37 runs.
He returned to Britain after the conclusion of last week’s third Test, which England lost by nine wickets and Pakistan won the series 2-1.
“I am releasing images of some of the stolen items – which I hope can be easily identified – in the hope that we can find those responsible,” Stokes added.
“Even though we’ve lost cherished possessions. My only motivation in sharing these photos is not to recover material items, it’s to catch the people who did it.
“They got away with jewelry, other valuables, and many personal items. Many of these items have real sentimental value to me and my family. They are irreplaceable.
“This is an appeal for any help in finding those who carried out this act.”
Along with the medal, Stokes posted photos of three necklaces, a ring, and a designer bag.
He encouraged anyone with information to call Durham Constabulary on 101 quoting crime reference CRI00575927.
During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, several footballers, including Raheem Sterling, have been robbed of their homes while playing in recent years.
