Birmingham: Commonwealth Games 2022 ends with grand ceremony

The 12-day 2022 Commonwealth Games concluded with a grand and colorful closing ceremony.

According to a report published, the closing ceremony was held at the Alexander Stadium where Apache Indian, Beverley Knight, Dixie Midnight Runners, Goldie, Jacob Banks, Jackie and Jorja Smith among others gave impressive performances.

Australia topped the list with 67 gold medals, hosts England second with 57, Canada third with 26 and India fourth with 22.

At the Commonwealth Games, Pakistan won 2 gold medals, Nooh Dastagir Butt in weightlifting and Arshad Nadeem in javelin throw, while the country also bagged 3 silver and 3 bronze medals.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the Games were “a shining example of the power of sport in strengthening the unique partnership of the Commonwealth of Nations”.

He praised Birmingham for being an excellent host and further cementing the UK’s reputation for hosting sporting events at the global level.

He also thanked the volunteers, fans and athletes for making the Games the best event ever.

Boris Johnson added that the success of Birmingham 2022 will not only be measured by medals or records broken, but also by the number of people encouraged to take part in the Games as a result, all of which this Government will do.

This has been made possible by the massive investment made into the sport in recent years.

At the closing ceremony, the hosting of the Commonwealth Games 2026 was officially handed over to the Australian state of Victoria.
