Dhabeji pipeline burst Karachi faces water crisis. According to News, the 72-inch diameter pipeline at the Dhabeji pumping station burst on Sunday, suspending the water supply to Karachi.

According to Karachi Water & Sewerage Board (KWSB), a power outage caused the 72-inch pipeline at Dhabeji to burst, which resulted in the shutdown of four pumps and the suspension of 530 million gallons of water supply to the port city.

Alternative water supply plans for the city not yet announced by the water board authorities.

Officials from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) have meanwhile urged Karachi residents to use water responsibly.

Keenjhar Lake and Hub Dam serve as Karachi’s primary water sources, and water from these two sources pumped through three major bulk pumping stations that situated in Dhabeji, Gharo, and Hub.

The Dam supplies Karachi with 100 million gallons of water each day.

With a total height of 339 feet and a surface area of 24,300 acres, the Hub Dam, 56 kilometers from Karachi, has a gross water storage capacity of 8,57,000 acre-feet.
