Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has declared a state of emergency across the country.

The news agency says that Sri Lanka’s parliament has appointed Vikrama Singh as acting president.

Sri Lankan President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa fled the country on a military plane, following a statement from a spokesman for the prime minister’s office, who said the president was out of the country.

It should be noted that two days ago, thousands of protesters stormed and occupied the presidential palace.

The president and prime minister were evacuated before the protesters attacked.
