The Punjab government has given Gujarat the status of a division while its official notification has also been issued as the 10th division of the province.
According to a media report, as per the notification issued by the Senior Member Board of Revenue (BOR) after the approval of the Punjab Governor, Gujarat Division will consist of 3 districts of Gujarat, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad.
A senior administrative official said that the new division was created by bifurcating the Gujranwala division which is the largest division comprising 6 districts with a total population of around 1.6 million.

The senior officer credited the establishment of the new division to Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and MNA Moonis Elahi who played a major role in making their hometown the divisional headquarters.
