Hollywood star Alec Baldwin charges with involuntary manslaughter. In the fatal 2021 shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins while filming the movie “Rust” in New Mexico, a state prosecutor said Thursday.
After 15 months of investigation and interviews, the case against Baldwin began to close.
However, Baldwin claims that he did not fire the shot. If convicted, the Hollywood star faces a minimum of 5 years in prison.
Alec Baldwin allegedly accidentally shot Halyna Hutchins during the shooting of the film Rust.
Santa Fe’s top prosecutor, District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, says Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the West Country armorer, will also be charged with involuntary manslaughter.
He added that all charges would be filed by the end of this month.
Hutchins’ family welcomed the announcement. While Luke Nikas, Baldwin’s attorney, said, “This verdict distorts the tragic death of Halyna Hutchins. And represents a terrible miscarriage of justice.”

The charging decision came as a surprise to Hollywood. The shooting occurred in October 2021 while Alec Baldwin was rehearsing with it on the set of a movie Rust being filmed outside the state capital of Santa Fe.
The film’s director, Joel Souza, was injured by the same 45 caliber bullet. That killed Hutchins.
