Iran is likely to criminalizes keeping dogs as pet

There has been a new wave of arrests of pet owners and confiscation of their animals in the Iran capital, Tehran.

According to British media, Iranian police have recently announced that walking dogs in parks is a crime and that the ban is justified for ‘public safety’.

On the other hand, the Iranian parliament may soon approve the ‘Public Rights Against Animals’ bill, which will ban pet ownership across the country.

Dr. Payam Mohibi, president of the Veterinary Association of Iran, says the debate about the bill began more than 10 years ago when a group of Iranian parliamentarians proposed confiscating all pet dogs and giving them to zoos or attempts were made to promote desertion laws.
