Jhelum put on flood alert

Jhelum put on flood alert. As the Mangla Dam is about to fill to capacity, the water level in the River Jhelum is sharply rising, raising concerns about flooding.

The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), according to official sources, has written to the Jhelum administration to inform them of the situation.

The letter’s text states that “preemptive safety measures needed to deal with the current emergency situation.”

Mangla Dam’s current water output into the Jhelum River is 51,000 cusecs, while its current inflow into the reservoir is 41,000 cusecs.

According to Wapda sources, the water level in Mangla Dam has risen to 1,123 feet, just a little below the dead level of 1,242 feet.

All affected departments placed on high alert due to the risk of flooding, according to a district administration spokesperson.

The situation also made known to residents of the Bela neighborhood near the Jhelum River, he continued.
