Majority of minors abused in Punjab are boys. The Punjab interior department recently made the shocking admission that as cases of child sexual abuse increase, more boys than girls are the victims of such crimes.
In a period of less than six months, 1,390 cases of child abuse reported in the province, which a horrifying number in and of itself but made worse by additional revelations. According to a report compiled on the numeration of such cases from January to June 15, 2023.
The report states that of the reported cases, 69% (959 cases) involved minor boys and 31% (431 cases) involved girls.
The information about the perpetrators was even more disturbing.
According to the report, 55% of those on trial were the victims’ neighbors, 13% were family members, and 32% were complete strangers.
According to the report, Gujranwala had 220 reported rape cases, which was the city with the highest prevalence of child abuse cases in Punjab.

The fewest rape cases reported in Rawalpindi and Lahore, at 69 and 89, respectively.
Also reported were 199 incidents by DG Khan, 186 in Faisalabad, 140 in Multan, 129 in Bahawalpur, 128 in Sheikhupura, 127 in Sahiwal, and 103 in Sargodha.
