Pakistan have announced a 16-member squad for the one-day series against the West Indies, with all-rounders Shadab Khan and Muhammad Nawaz returning.
The one-day series between the West Indies and Pakistan will be played in June, which was scheduled in December last year but was postponed due to Corona cases.
The three ODI series will be played on June 8, 10 and 12 at the Pindi Stadium in Rawalpindi.
23-year-old Shadab Khan and 28-year-old Muhammad Nawaz have been included in the national team once again.
Chief selector Muhammad Waseem said in a statement that “Nawaz and Shadab are now fully fit, so we did not have to include Asif Afridi and Usman Qadir in the team.”
“We have given the squad a great chance to win the series,” he said.
The 16-member squad announced for the series will gather at the training camp to be held in Rawalpindi on June 1 for training.
The Pak-West Indies series is part of the ODI Super League, qualifying for the 2023 World Cup in India.
The national squad for the series consists of the following players:
Babar Azam (Captain), Shadab Khan, Abdullah Shafiq, Fakhr Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hassan Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imamul Haq, Khushdal Shah, Muhammad Haris, Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Rizwan, Muhammad Wasim Jr., Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shahnawaz Dhani, Zahid Mahmoud.
It may be recalled that West Indies have already announced their 15-member squad, which will visit the Netherlands before coming to Pakistan where the one-day series will start later this month.
West Indies have added three new players to the squad for the crucial series, including fast bowler Jaden Sales and Sherman Lewis, as well as batsman Casey Carty.
Both fast bowlers Sales and Lewis have experience of playing at Test level, but Carty from St. Maarten has been selected in the West Indies senior team for the first time.
West Indies selector Desmond Heinz said: We are impressed with Carty because of the way he plays and the many times we saw the essence of his ability in the matches against President England by President XI earlier this year.
“We hope that by giving them this opportunity they will be able to recognize the importance of representing the West Indies and that these are tours where they can assert themselves,” he said.
Players in the West Indies squad:
Nicholas Puran (captain), Shay Hope (vice-captain), Enkromah Bonner, Shammar Brooks, Casey Carty, Akil Hussain, Alzari Joseph, Brandon King, Sherman Lewis, Kyle Myers, Anderson Philip, Roman Powell, Jaiden Sales, Romario Shepherd, Hayden Wash Jr.
