Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has said that Pakistan’s performance in the T20 World Cup will depend on Babar Azam’s form.
In the video shared by ICC, when Ricky Ponting was asked the names of the favorite teams for the next T20 World Cup to be held in Australia this year, he declared the teams of India and England as favorites along with the host country.
He said that when the Australian team arrived in the United Arab Emirates last year, I was also among those who did not declare Australia as the favorite for the title because the conditions there are not favorable for them.
He said that England team is very good in limited overs cricket, Pakistan and New Zealand also perform well in big tournaments but I think India and Australia are the two teams that will play the final and I would like Australia to beat them in the final.
When asked about Waqar Younis declaring Pakistan as the favorite for the T20 World Cup, Ricky Ponting said that his analysis is absolutely correct because Pakistan has been performing well for a long time, their batting line-up is good, Shaheen Shah Afridi is also giving good performances with the new ball so there are no reasons why this team can’t be successful.
However, the former Australian captain said that the three teams who have the most match winners and quality players are England, Australia and India.
The case of the rest of the teams is not the same, but if Pakistan, New Zealand and the West Indies also reach the finals, I will not be surprised.
He termed the partnership of Babar and Mohammad Rizwan as the most important for Pakistan and said that Pakistan’s performance will depend on Babar’s form.
Ricky Ponting said that along with the openers, the role of fast bowlers, spinners and middle-order batsmen will also be important, but spinners may face problems in Australia because spinners are not supported by wickets there and it will be a challenge for India too.
It should be noted that the T20 World Cup will be held in Australia from October 16 to November 13 this year.
