Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister had decided to form a National Economic Advisory Council (NEAC) comprising leading economists to find a way out of the current economic crisis.
According to sources, the NEAC will include experienced economists and industrialists such as Muhammad Ali Tibba, Mian Mansha, Ali Cheema and Yusuf Nazar among others.
Insiders told that the prime minister wanted the NEAC to meet every Saturday on a weekly basis, but the economic team suggested that no date should be set for the meeting.
In his meeting with economists, the Prime Minister directed to come up with immediate proposals to take the country out of the current economic crisis.
These proposals will be formulated in consultation with stakeholders in the fields of agriculture, trade, investment and banking.
A summit on economic recovery will also be held in the next few days to consider the suggestions of economists.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need to strike a balance between national and public interest and directed for reduction in prices of daily necessities and essentials, especially during the month of Ramadan.
Apart from the overall national balance sheet, the finance secretary briefed the meeting on the economic situation, revenue, budget deficit and debt.
