Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter was taken to a local hospital due to injury during the Buffaloes’ 43-35 victory over rival Colorado State on Saturday night.
Travis Hunter has been one of the Buffaloes’ top players this season after transferring from Jackson State.
Hunter, who plays both wide receiver and cornerback for the No. 18 Buffs. He made an early impression on the Heisman Trophy race with his performance in the first two games of the season after following first-year coach Dion Sanders to Jackson State.
Playing wide receiver, Travis Hunter gets an injury when he took a violent hit from Colorado State safety Henry Blackburn. During the first quarter of the game and stayed down on the field to get the attention of trainers.
Blackburn penalized for unnecessary roughness. Hunter eventually returned to the game after the hit and made one tackle in the second quarter before leaving the game for good.
It wasn’t immediately clear if Blackburn’s hit was responsible for Hunter’s departure. But it created an early flashpoint in a contest that was already tense. CU quarterback Shadevor Sanders met Blackburn face-to-face after a hit on Hunter’s defense.
While Hunter’s durability as a two-way player logging more than 100 snaps per game has come into question, Sanders has noted that he can adjust Hunter’s workload given his experience in a similar role. Uniquely equipped to handle.
