Belal Muhammad has defeated welterweight champion Leon Edwards in the Ultimate Fighting Championship main event UFC 304 on Sunday July 28 in Manchester.
According to the BBC, Belal Muhammad outclassed Birmingham’s Leon Edwards in five rounds. The judges scored the fight 48-47, 48-47 and 49-46 for the 36-year-old Palestinian.
The new welterweight champion told TNT Sports, “It seems like everybody who’s booing has a lot of tears in their eyes. I’ve got my family here. God first, always. This fight is my family, For my people and Palestine.
He added, “I got the best team in the world, we basically study, we improve, we have the best strikers, these guys are killers, you might not know their names, but we have a real champion in Chicago now I’m my own man, they should respect that.
Belal concluded by saying, “Ian Larios needs me to make something unhealthy; I’ve only eaten healthy for six weeks.”
Meanwhile, former champion Edward said in an interview with TNT Sports, “Not surprisingly, my body felt tired from just one round. I felt tired all week. Congratulations Belal, we will be back.”
Additionally, Belal became the first Palestinian to claim a UFC title.
