US: Imran Khan’s arrest is an internal matter of Pakistan

US: Imran Khan’s arrest is an internal matter of Pakistan. As the State Department made a statement regarding the ongoing legal actions against various political leaders, the United States declared late on Saturday that the PTI chairman’s sentencing and arrest were internal Pakistani issues.

In this regard, Mathew Miller, a spokesman for the State Department, stated that “the allegations against the PTI chairman and other politicians are a matter of internal concern to Pakistan.”

The US regularly emphasizes adherence to democratic values and the rule of law, just like other nations around the world, Miller continued.

The response came after a local court on Saturday sentenced the PTI chairman to three years in prison and a Rs. 100,000 fine in the Toshakhana case. This decision will alter the political climate of the nation as it prepares for general elections.

The court announced the brief judgment, along with a five-year ban on him holding any office, and stated that the full decision released later.

The PTI leader later transferred to the Central Jail attock.

The court further ruled that the PTI chairman had filed a false affidavit with the Election Commission and engaged in corrupt practices in violation of Section 174 of the Election Act 2017. The court then ordered the Islamabad police chief to immediately arrest the defendant while also issuing arrest warrants.

According to the court’s short order in Islamabad, the offender face an additional six-month jail sentence if the fine not paid.

Just over 30 minutes later, senior PTI figurehead Shah Mehmood Qureshi announced that his party’s chairman taken into custody by police at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore.
