Renowned comedian Majid Jahangir died after a long illness, his family said on Wednesday.
The comedian injured a month ago after falling from his bed. His spine was broken in the accident. Majid Jahangir, who rose to fame with his work in the comedy series Fifty Fifty. He was suffering from a respiratory ailment which worsened recently.
He admitted in a critical condition in a hospital in Lahore in November 2020.
The actor, who lost partial function due to a stroke nearly five years ago. He shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Lahore.
Jahangir awarded the Pride of Performance Award – Pakistan’s highest honor – for his memorable performance in Fifty-Fifty.
He worked for Pakistan Television Network (PTV) for 22 years and acted in four films.
The actor gave an exclusive interview to a local YouTube channel to expose the ugly side of the entertainment industry.
He revealed, once invited to a private TV show hosted by Waseem Badami and Iqar-ul Hassan on ARY Digital.
The show was fundraising for a telethon to raise money for the elderly comedian’s medical expenses.
Iqar-ul-Hassan and Waseem Badami managed to collect Rs 10 lakh for Majid Jahangir during the live show.
Waseem Badami also offered him a brand new car to make it easier for him to go to the hospital.
Majid Jahangir said, Waseem Badami and Iqar-ul-Hassan sat near my feet, as if I were a big person, and said, “This Toyota Corolla is yours.”
He added that after the show ended, I called him repeatedly. I begged him for money and car but he did not answer my calls.
“I requested them to at least give me money for my treatment. But they didn’t even bother to give me money. I will hold them accountable in the hereafter.”
Abdul Majeed Jahangir was a popular personality of Pakistani showbiz industry.
A true pioneer, he was one of the top comedians in the golden age of Pakistani television.
He also honored with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz on Independence Day in 2020.
Majid Jahangir has been appealing for financial assistance for the past two years due to his poor health.
He revealed that his fans abroad still take care of him by sending money for his treatment.
