Wheat prices break all the previous records in Pakistan.
On Monday, the price of 40 kilograms of wheat reaches the highest level of Rs. 4450 across the country.
In Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the price of 15 kg of private flour used to be Rs. 1200 or Rs.1300.
According to Malik Tanveer Awan, a member of Pakistan Flour Mills Association, X Mills price has crossed the psychological limit of Rs. 1900. While in the market, a bag of 15 kilos of private flour reaches to Rs.1950.
An official of the food department says that the Sindh government assures new wheat stocks till January 15. And after that the market was left open.
The flour mills of Sindh, like the flour mills of Punjab, starts procuring wheat from southern Punjab rapidly. As a result of which the price of Punjab wheat increases from Rs. 4200 to Rs. 4450 on December 26. Wheat prices break all the previous records.
Chairman of Pakistan Flour Mills Association Punjab Branch Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmed Mattu and former Chairman of Pakistan Flour Mills Association North Punjab Atif Nadeem Mirza says while putting the responsibility of the price of wheat up to 4450 rupees per 40 kg on the government of Punjab.
That instead of days and weeks, they have been making this request to Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and the Secretary and Director of Food Department of Punjab to increase the government wheat quota to 25,000 tons per day for flour mills.
Last week, the quota of more than 1,000 flour mills in Punjab was increased to 21,000 tons per day, while the official wheat quota was 23,000 tons per day in the same days a year ago, which was being given to 23,000 tons from November 2021.
