The field for the election of the 21st Leader of the House in the province will be adorn today. The Punjab Assembly will convene this morning at 11:30 AM.
Both candidates Pervez Elahi and Hamza Shahbaz have claimed their respective victories.
Pervez Elahi claims that he has the support of 189 members while Hamza Shahbaz says that he has more than 200 MPAs.
Out of a total of 371 members of the Punjab Assembly, 186 votes are required to become the Chief Minister.
According to the Lahore High Court, Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari will conduct the election.
A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has given a safe verdict on the appeals filed, stating that the Deputy Speaker will abide by the oath of office.
Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari has the right to preside over the sitting under the law.
According to the court decision, the election of the Chief Minister should be held in a transparent and impartial manner.
The decision further said that Chief Secretary Punjab should take immediate action on any complaint during the election, IG Punjab should remove the fear of any kind of obstruction during the election.
