Hollywood actor Will Smith has been banned from attending Oscars for 10 years.
According to foreign media reports, Will Smith was sentenced for slapping host Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars.
According to reports, the move came after a meeting of the academy’s board members on April 8.
In meeting it was decided to take action against the actor in the wake of the March 27 Oscars.
“This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, spectators and our academy family around the world, so that no one can do such a thing again,” said a statement from Academy Awards officials.
“We are taking action today in response to Will Smith’s behavior, which is a step toward a larger goal of protecting our artists and our guests,” the statement said.
“I accept and respect the decision of the academy,” Will Smith told the American Broadcasting Corporation.
It may be recalled that during the Oscars ceremony, actor Chris Rock came on the stage to give the award, during which while talking, he had made fun of Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinket Smith’s hair fall then Smith came on stage and slapped on the Chris Rock face.
While being slapped, Chris Rock continued to engage in juggling, but Smith sat in his seat and continued to curse him.
