West Indies wins the toss and elects to bat first in the T20 World Cup first round match played in Hobart.
The West Indies team fails to bat openly from the beginning. None of the West Indian batsmen except Brendan King can face the bowling of the Irish bowlers.
Brandon King plays an innings of 62 runs off 48 balls with the help of six fours and a six. While Johnson Charles scores 24 runs and Odin Smith scores 19 runs.
West Indies makes 146 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs.
Ireland’s Gareth Delaney bowls brilliantly and takes three wickets for 16 runs in 4 overs.
In pursuit of the target, Ireland’s openers start the innings aggressively. They score runs at an average of 10 runs per over. They add 73 runs for the first wicket to make the match one-sided.
West Indies’ first and only success come in the eighth over when skipper Andrew Balbrine becomes the wicket of Aqeel Hussain. He scores 37 runs with 3 sixes and two fours.

Lorcan Tucker then come in to support the experienced Paul Stirling. The duo takes the team to the target in the 18th over without further loss to a resounding victory.
Stirling and Tucker put on a partnership of 77 runs to lead their team to victory by 9 wickets. Stirling scores 66 and Tucker scores 45 runs.
After this defeat, the West Indies team is out of the World Cup, while the Ireland team has qualified for the Super 12 stage. Gareth Delaney was named man of the match for taking 3 wickets for 16 runs.
