Things successful people avoid in public

We live in a world where success is usually defined by certain parameters like wealth and fame. However, I am of the opinion that success looks different for everyone. I will define 10 things successful people avoid in public.

What truly separates successful people from the rest of us is their ability to define what success means to them, then achieve it. Maybe go even further.

1) Successful people do not belittle anyone

I think there is a level of empathy that needs to be reached to be truly successful. I came across a quote recently—and I’ll include the whole thing below—that says “it’s a lonely road to success,” and it explains why I think empathy is important.

Unless one lives a completely privileged life, being successful is a difficult task. Obstacles after obstacles, rejection after rejection can break one’s spirit.

I think the lonely road to success is also a humbling one. I wanted to call attention to the person who said the quote, the first Filipina to be nominated for a Golden Globe: Dolly de Leon.

The full quote is from a feature piece about him on Tatler Asia.

She said, “That’s the only way to be successful, especially when you’re unknown, and you can’t blame people for not paying attention to you. It helps when you read or hear a story like [mine] somewhere in the world. , someone worked hard and finally got the reward. It motivates you to keep going and keep doing what you love.”

2) Successful people don’t conform

At first, I want to make this point as “successful people don’t mingle” but then remember that there are a lot of low-key people who like to mingle. Whose achievements may never revealed. So, I changed it to “Successful people don’t conform.”

Even the fact that a successful person can choose to live a life of simplicity and silence is inconsistent. I liked it. It bears repeating that success will look different for everyone. And I mean, everyone.

It could be a pop star like Lady Gaga who is popular for her larger-than-life presence or maybe the owner of your favorite restaurant that survived the peak of the pandemic. (Like the OMG Squeegee that featured in Queer Eye Season 6) Surviving and thriving in the face of adversity despite expectations.

3) Successful people do not accept disrespect

I’ll keep it short and sweet: successful people know their worth. And when you know your worth, you won’t allow other people to disrespect you. You will have the ability to walk away from things, people and situations that do not compliment or serve you.

4) Successful people don’t miss opportunities

You find wisdom in really random places, this was a tweet I saw and has stayed with me ever since, “This opportunity would never have come your way if you weren’t capable. You belong. ” Those of us who suffer from imposter syndrome should remember the quote above. I think that’s another thing that separates successful people from us, they don’t let opportunities pass them by. You never know what doors will open once you say yes.

5) Successful people do not criticize others

Successful people know when to say yes, but they also know when to say no. And being able to recognize when to say no is also important and perhaps honed throughout the year. So what are some successful people not going to get caught doing? lash out at people. And that’s because successful people don’t over commit. Successful people give themselves time to breathe and relax.

“Success is being able to choose who to say no to.”

Lets further discuss the 10 things successful people avoid in public.

6) Successful people don’t pretend to be perfect

Successful people don’t claim to be perfect. They are also rarely perfectionists. Perfection is unattainable, first and foremost. It is also not sustainable. Can you imagine constantly trying not to run out of perfection?

Society’s idea of “perfection” is so rigid and narrow that it’s nearly impossible to take risks, take chances, or go off the beaten path when you try.

7) Successful people don’t overpay

Successful people don’t charge much. There is a belief in their identity that prevents them from doing so. Aren’t people who overcompensate trying to hide something about themselves that they perceive as their shortcomings?

This is, where it’s especially important to define what success means to you.

Successful people know what success means to them. Quick clarification: Just because successful people are sure of their “destination,” it doesn’t make them immune to failure or insecurity. What’s different is that they don’t let those failures or insecurities define them.

8) Successful people don’t panic

“We are worth more than we give ourselves credit for,” is something I realized that has stayed with me ever since. Mind you, it’s hard to remember in the throes of a crisis, panic begins with a vengeance. But this is another reason why successful people are different. They remain calm under pressure.

9) Successful people never fail to celebrate the success of others

Jamie Lee Curtis recently went viral for her reaction to Michelle Yeoh’s Best Actress win at the Golden Globes.

At someone else’s victory she expressed absolute joy: mouth open in a scream, hands raised in joy.

It should be noted that Jamie Lee Curtis was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress that same night, an award that was eventually won by Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Despite this, Curtis was still the ultimate hype woman for Yeh.

Another viral moment: Lizzo sharing the stage with activists. Lizzo was awarded the People’s Champion at the People’s Choice Awards last December 2022.

In his acceptance speech, she said… “Being an icon isn’t about how long you’ve had your platform, being an icon is what you do with that platform. And since the beginning of my career, I’ve used my platform to amplify marginalized voices. used for.” Lizzo shared the stage with 17 activists.

She introduced each person by their name and their work. The stage was filled with women and gender diverse individuals fighting the good fight.

The lesson here is that the stage is wide enough for all of us and successful people know it! As Lizzo sang, “If I’m shining, everybody’s gonna shine.”

10) Successful people don’t forget to celebrate their wins

Viola Davis, she is a force to be reckoned with. She also just won a Grammy for Best Audio book, Narrative, and Storytelling Recording for his autobiography “FINDING ME.”

In her acceptance speech, she said, “I just EGOT!” Referring to the elite group of individuals who have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. It’s so elite, Viola is only the 18th to have achieved it! As she conceded her victory, the crowd rose to its feet, and the crowd applauded.

They celebrated her and with her. Now not everyone who reads this will get an EGOT, our wins may not be as sweet as her, but we should take a page from her book and acknowledge those wins anyway.

It’s easy to dismiss our successes because, well… sometimes we think they’re not special enough to celebrate.

Or they’re not that impressive simply because we managed to do them. But they are! They are! Our victories, however small, should be celebrated!

By doing little by little, and knowing what to avoid, we can build our own definition of success.
