SC will pronounce verdict on election postponement case

The Supreme Court will pronounce its verdict today on the petition against postponing elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to sources, the verdict can pronounced anytime after 11:30 pm. But the final time of the verdict has not announced yet.

Strict security arrangements have made in the Supreme Court.

Yesterday, the decision reserved in the Supreme Court on completion of the hearing of the case related to the postponement of elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial and comprising Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan and Justice Muneeb Akhtar heard the case.

During the hearing, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, Election Commission lawyers Sujeel Swati and Irfan Qadir, PTI lawyer Barrister Ali Zafar, Pakistan Peoples Party lawyer Farooq H. Naik, Defense Secretary, Election Commission Secretary and Deputy Interior Secretary appeared in the court.

At the end of the hearing, the Chief Justice addressed the Attorney General and asked him to convey the message of the court that there is still time to resolve the issues politically so that another unnecessary issue does not arise.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial said that they want to choose their own judges, it has never happened that judges have chosen themselves for their cases.

He said that the law does not give anyone the authority to postpone the election, only the court can extend the date of the election, the government has not given any material on which the election can be postponed.
