Spotify pays tribute to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

Spotify pays tribute to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. On the occasion of Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day celebrations, the music streaming service Spotify announced. That it would honor the legendary singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan by releasing an updated version of a playlist in his honor.

According to a statement released on Friday, a fitting tribute paid in the form of an improved and updated version of the playlist. “This Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan,” which feature some of his timeless hits that still mixed with contemporary genres to produce breath-taking compositions for audiences to enjoy.

“Even after more than two decades of his passing, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan continues to feature as one of Pakistan’s top streamed artists globally,” the press release detailed.

“As per Spotify’s data, he ranked as the 4th most streamed Pakistani artist on the platform this year, with his tracks inspiring generation after generation of listeners and singers alike. Songs like ‘Yeh Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hae’, ‘Afreen Afreen’, ‘Mustt Mustt’, and ‘The Long Road’ that features Pearl Jam vocalist Eddie Veddor are some of his most listened tracks, along with his work with international producer Peter Gabriel.”

According to Spotify, the fact that Khan’s original songs still covered and recreated today indicates the extent of his influence on a wide range of musical compositions.

The top five most streamed modern remakes of the original Khan songs include “Lut Gaye,” “Mere Rashke Qamar,” “Kali Kali Zulfon Ke,” “Mere Baad Kisko Sataoge,” and “Dekhte Dekhte.”

“Data from Spotify shows that the youth continues to drive the trend of keeping Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s legacy alive,” the statement read. “A substantial 37% of his listeners are between 18 and 22 years old.”

It went on to say that the second-largest age group on the audio streaming service was between the ages of 23 and 27, accounting for 24% of his audience, while the ages of 28 to 34 and those under 18 made up 14% and 12% of his audience, respectively.

“Overall, this year, more than 5 million people listened to Nusrat’s songs on a monthly basis. Additionally, the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and India are the top international markets for streaming his music, according to the statement.

The record label also announced that a video tribute to Khan and his songs released on August 14 and would include a wide range of contemporary artists.
