Google Announces Closure of Old Messaging App ‘Hangouts’

Google has announced the closure of its messaging app Hangouts after nearly a decade, urging users to switch to Google Chat.

Google said in a post that the hangout service will be shut down in early November 2022.

The company says that users’ chat data will be automatically transferred from Hangouts to Google Chat.

If you use Hangouts on your phone or desktop, Google may soon prompt you to go to chat.

Hangouts was originally part of Google Plus, which allows users to send messages and make video calls to others, later becoming part of other services.

Google also made number of changes for Hangouts users in late 2020.
