Few days ago while scrolling on social media i see a heart ranching post of a person laying on hospital bed. His well wishers was appealing to the public for his recovery.
Hashim Raza whose picture before and after cancer going viral on social media platform.
I do not know him before but my heart cries. Through the context of post i come to know that he used to be a motivational speaker & a social-activist.
Then i start searching to know him. Look at the irony of the time, a healthy person stuck to the bed. On 13th August, 2022 the news of his death was circulating on social media. It leaves me in tears.
Hashim, 25 years old was a social activist based in Lahore. This year March he diagnoses with stage 4 intestinal cancer. He had been complaining of some minor stomach problem. The proper diagnosis starts in March with a regular medical checkup when it was suspected by the doctor that it could be something more serious than just a minor illness.
Doctor advise Hashim to go for an endoscopic examination for further clarification. What began was an onerous journey in which Hashim saw his health deteriorating fast. He lost over 15 kilograms making people astonished seeing his before and after pictures.
Hashim wrote about his situation weeks before his death and the post also gone viral on social media.
Hashim Raza wrote in great detail about his illness and finally mentioned some lessons he got as a result.
I want everyone to read his words because these have a great lesson for all of us.
He says that when the stomach stopped digesting, the weight was reduced rapidly in just a few months. All the daily activities slowly disappeared and I stuck to the bed.
When blood was needed for the my operation, a strange incident happened. When I put the WhatsApp status, I was sure that the blood will arrange shortly as many blood societies, blood NGOs and blood activists were connected with me.
But I was very surprised at that time when more than 600 close people saw my status, but except few friends, no one even asked why I needed blood.
Blood was arrange but I got a bigger shock than that. He says that life has its own way of teaching and I learned the following important lessons from life in these difficult days:
1. Surrender yourself to Allah that nothing is in your control. You are not invincible at all.
2. Your family comes first and there is no substitute for a mother’s love.
3. Even if you are unable to move from your bed and your pain is unbearable, you still have much to be grateful to your God for.
4. We can sometimes determine the cause or time of a particular issue only when it is too late.
5. Being or not being you doesn’t matter to anyone except certain people. So try to be with those special people in your life and appreciate them already.
6. Some people take advantage of you but they are not of use in your difficult times. Beware of such people.
7. Keep friendship with few but sincere people.
8. Appreciate the little blessings in life. Talking to someone, walking in the park, eating regular meals, laughing, getting enough sleep and being able to do small tasks, these are the blessings that may be trivial to you, but I miss them today. I am deprived of all these blessings.
9. Taking time out of your busy life to take care of someone is very important for a sick person. For this reason, it is also the Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (peace be upon him).
10. Know what is really important to you. Those things that I used to consider very important for me, but when I fell ill, they became completely unimportant to me.
11. Some ordinary people are better for you than your friends and blood relatives.
12. Social media is a big scam. It is turning us from humans to beasts and we are losing human compassion.
13. Every situation has many lessons for us to learn.
14. Life is too short. So start doing something meaningful and special right now. If you have hurt someone’s heart, then apologize to him. If you love someone, tell him. Don’t delay because you may not be able to do it all tomorrow.
15. It’s easy to fall into the delusion that the world can’t go on without me, but the truth is that it doesn’t matter if we’re there or not.
“I am back but this time not for people but for myself as I have learned that most people don’t care about you as much as you think they care. In the end, I come away with the understanding that everything in life falls into place at its own pace and we plan but Allah decides and He is the best of planners”.

I am speechless. Life is really unpredictable. We all know the reality of this mortal world but yet we attach hearth there. Everything will remain there.
May God rest his Soul in peace!
