A high calories diet increases the risk of cancer and early death

Separate studies in the US and Italy finds that people who eat fast food or low-nutrition diets are more likely to develop colorectal cancer and heart disease.

colorectal cancer

According to the ‘CNN’, the report publish in the British Medical Journal states that fast food or low-nutrition food includes items that are high in calories, including soups, sauces, pizza, etc. Includes processed foods, sausages, french fries, soda, cookies, cakes, coffees, donuts, ice cream and others.

Marion Nestle, a professor of nutrition, food studies and public health at New York University, says, “There have certainly been hundreds of studies carry out on fast food or low-nutrition diets. And all of them find that eating fast food increases more chances of cancer & heart disease.

He further states that this study is a continuation of all the research conduct in the past. That fast food or low-nutrition foods clearly increase the chances of infectious diseases.

Increasing the chances of cases

A US study examining more than 200,000 men and women over the age of 28 find a link between fast food and colorectal cancer. That is the third most commonly diagnoses cancer in the US.

Faing Fang Zhang is a cancer epidemiologist at Tufts University’s Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy in Boston. He says that research shows that men consume more fast food than women. Men are 29% more likely to develop colorectal cancer than women.

Why is the risk of colorectal cancer not found in women?

Faing Fang Zhang says that ‘women tend to be obese compare to men. The role of metabolic hormones is different than men, maybe that’s why women are less likely to get this cancer than men’.

Dr. Robin Mendelsohn is a gastroenterologist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He is not involve in the study, says that “women may be more likely to eat healthy alternatives to fast food than men.”

Chances of premature death

Another study conducts in Molise, Italy, which examined more than 200,000 people. This study starts in 2005, citing the possibility of epidemics in cancer, heart and brain.

According to a review publish in the British Medical Journal, foods high in sugar and low-nutrition foods are associate with a higher risk of developing chronic diseases or premature death.

The chances of cardiovascular disease and premature death increase.

Marialora Bonaccio, an epidemiologist in Italy, says that “80 percent of the food made on the principle of nutrition has also been declared unsatisfactory”. He says that ‘this shows that the chances of early death are not due to less nutritious food, but to eating more fast food or those foods which contain more calories’.
