FIFA world cup: Riots in Belgium after upset defeat by Morocco

Riots erupted in the European country after Belgium’s upset defeat by Morocco at the FIFA World Cup 2022 and police detained several people.

In a World Cup full of upsets, European fans got to witness another major upset when Morocco defeated Belgium 2-0 on Sunday.

According to the Reuters news agency, riots broke out in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. After the defeat people protest in various places and burn valuable properties.

The police arrests one person and detained several others on charges of violence and damage to property in the riots.

According to Police Spokesperson Wayne De Keer, law and order restore by 7:00 PM. The police are continuously patrolling different parts of the city. He says that the protestors used various items including petrochemical ingredients, sticks and set fire to property. While a journalist also injured in the incidents of fire. Local Belgians protested, with Moroccans as well as some Arabs dancing in the streets to celebrate the victory.

The mayor of Brussels also strongly condemned these violent incidents. He says that I have instructed the police to take all possible measures to make arrests and establish peace.
