Rajinikanth, a megastar of Indian cinema, made his two-year cinematic comeback on Thursday with a full-length film. His most recent film, “Jailer,” created a stir at the box office and in less than a week became the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023.
The action thriller, which had a massive budget of INR 225 crores, managed to earn INR 350 crores from ticket sales in just five days of release, surpassing the total earnings of INR 345 crores of veteran director Mani Ratnam’s historical epic “Ponniyin Selvan II.”
According to reports, a sizable portion of the film’s enormous INR 225 crore budget went toward the salaries of the star cast, especially Thalaivar, who received a staggering 48% of the budget for playing the title role.
According to figures cited by Indian entertainment outlets, Rajinikanth received INR 110 crores for the movie, while Mohanlal and Shivarajkumar received INR 8 crores and INR 4 crores, respectively, for their brief but significant cameos.
