Imran Khan: Take me out I don’t want to remain in jail

Imran Khan: Take me out I don’t want to remain in jail. Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), reportedly told his lawyers that he did not want to stay in prison, according to sources in the Attock jail who were present during the meeting between the former prime minister and his lawyer.

According to the sources, Khan, who found guilty of corruption in the Toshakhana case and given a three-year prison term, is unhappily and anxiously holed up in his cell in “distressing” circumstances.

The officials cited Khan as saying, “Take me out of here; I don’t want to stay in jail,” when he met with his attorney.

The jail authorities gave Khan’s lawyer Naeem Haider Panjotha permission to visit him on Monday. After seeing the PTI chairman, Panjotha claimed that the former premier held in “distressing” conditions with “C-Class jail facilities.”

The PTI leader, Panjotha continued, was in good spirits despite all of the challenges and vowed to spend the rest of his life in prison rather than submit to slavery.

The sources claimed, however, that the PTI chairman expressed his worries about the prison’s environment—flies occupying his cell during the day and insects at night—during the meeting with his lawyer.

After found guilty in the Toshakhana case, the former prime minister detained from his Zaman Park residence in Lahore on suspicion of using his position as prime minister from 2018 to 2022 to purchase and resell gifts that given to him during foreign trips and valued at more than Rs140 million ($635,000).

The accusations made against Khan are denied.

According to Additional and Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar’s ruling, the PTI chairman is facing accusations of misdeclaring his assets.

The PTI leader given a three-year prison term, arrest warrants issued for him, and a fine of Rs. 100,000 by Judge Dilawar.

Khan’s petition challenging the case’s maintainability was also denied by the judge.

The former prime minister’s party filed a petition with the Supreme Court challenging the trial court’s decision, asking the court to declare Judge Dilawar’s verdict “null and void.” The former prime minister removed from office after a no-confidence motion brought against him in April 2022.

The PTI has also requested Khan’s transfer from Attock jail to Adiala jail in a letter to Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
