Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ hit the Indian state of Gujarat on Thursday night. One of the thousands of families who moved to safer places in the face of the storm named their newborn daughter ‘Biparjoy’.
According to foreign media reports, a family in Gujarat has named their new-born baby girl on cyclone name after a storm in the Arabian Sea.
Biparjoy means ‘disaster’ in Bengali and was proposed by Bangladesh academics and adopted by World Meteorological Organization (WMO) countries in 2020.

The family is currently living in a temporary shelter in Jakhau area of Kuch district.
After naming the new baby girl ‘Biparjoy’, she is one of the exclusive group in the world who are named after the past cyclones that hit the east coast, Butterfly, Fani, Gulab etc.
It should be noted that according to Indian media reports, the government had shifted more than 100,000 people, including 1,171 pregnant women, to safe places from 8 districts affected by the storm, of which 707 women gave birth on the night of the storm.
