March 8th, is marked as International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8th March every year. This day is a celebration to honour women’s achievements and promote gender equality in society. The aim to celebrate this day is to raise awareness about the ongoing struggle for women’s rights. In early 1900 this day was celebrated for the first time. Since then it has become a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political contributions of women to society.

The theme for International Women’s Day 2023 is “Choose to Challenge.” The theme encourages everyone to challenge gender bias and inequality. Call out sexism and discrimination, and work towards creating a more inclusive and equitable world. It is a call to action for individuals and organizations to do their part in promoting gender equality and empowering women.

The history of International Women’s Day dates back to 1908

At that time 15,000 women marched through New York City. They demanded better pay, shorter working hours, and voting rights. The first International Women’s Day celebrated in 1911. Initially, the celebration limited to Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. But afterwards, it spread to other parts of the world.

Over the years, this day has become a popular platform. Through this platform, they raise awareness about the issues that women face.  Through this platform women fight for their rights. It has played a significant role in the feminist movement. It has helped to inspire change in various areas of society, including politics, education, and the workplace.

Avoid preconceptions about women’s day: Sherry Rehman

Though society has progressed towards gender equality, there is still a long way to go. Women continue to face discrimination, harassment, and violence. They are not fully safe in their personal lives and in the workplace. The gender pay gap persists, with women still earning less than men for the same work. Only few women represents in leadership positions. Only a small percentage of women in top positions in politics, business, and other fields.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is a reminder that we all have a role to play in promoting gender equality. It calls on individuals to speak out against sexism and discrimination. We all should challenge gender stereotypes, and support women’s rights. It also encourages organizations to take action to address gender bias and promote diversity and inclusion.

This day is an important reminder that the fight for gender equality is far from over.

This day is a call to action for everyone. We all should work towards creating an equal opportunity world. A world where women are valued and respected equally. Let us all choose to challenge gender bias and inequality. Let us all work towards a brighter and more inclusive future for all.
