PEMRA: ban on broadcast of Imran Khan’s speeches. The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has imposed a ban on broadcasting ‘live and recorded’ speeches and press conferences of the PTI Chairman on all satellite TV channels with instant effect reported on Sunday.
“It observed that Imran Khan in his speeches/statements is continuously alleging state institutions by leveling baseless allegations and spreading hate speech. Through his provocative statements against state institutions and officers. Which is prejudicial to the maintenance of law and order and is likely to disturb public peace and tranquility.” Detailed the notification issued by the regulatory authority.
PEMRA noted that airing of “baseless allegations, the hateful, slanderous and unwarranted statement.” Besides state institutions and officers was in pure violation of Article 19 of the Constitution of Pakistan and a judgment of the SC passed in Suo Moto Case.
The authority further said that later analyzing the content of Imran’s speech. Iit detected that the content aired live by the licensees without an effective time interval mechanism. This violated the provision of PEMRA laws and disobeyed the courts’ judgments.
“The competent authority i.e. Chairman PEMRA in view of the background as mentioned above and reasons, in the exercise of delegated powers of the Authority vested in Section 27(a) of the PEMRA Ordinance 2002 as amended by PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2007. Hereby prohibits the broadcast of live speech of Imran Khan on all satellite TV channels with immediate effect,” it added.
Furthermore, directed all satellite TV channels to confirm that an impartial Editorial Board constituted as necessary. Under Clause 17 of the Electronic Media (Programs and Advertisement) Code of Conduct 2015 in order to guarantee that their platform not used by anyone for saying remarks in any manner. “Which are disrespectful and besides any state institution and hateful, harmful to law and order situation”.

It advised of legal action per PEMRA laws in case of any violation of the directives.
